2005 Dubai Expo and Education Conference Post-Show Report
|
|
|
Dear Past Exhibitors:
We would first like to thank you for your previous
business with ISN. To update you on our progress
and opportunities available to you and your
university, we have enclosed a report on our 2005
Dubai Expo, one of our most ambitious projects to
date.
In February 2005, ISN traveled to Dubai, U.A.E., to
host an American Education Expo and a conference
for guidance counselors from across the Persian Gulf
region. The Dubai Knowledge Village hosted the
event, sponsored by the American Center for Press
and Cultural Affairs in the UAE. The event was also
certified and sealed by the US Department of
Commerce. 70 American universities presented for
thousands of students over two days, while American
admissions officers and recruiters worked with over
100 local guidance counselors. This event was one of
our most rewarding for everyone involved.

American Education Conference
|
|
|
Over 110 guidance counselors from high schools and
prep schools from across the Gulf Countries joined
ISN and representatives from American universities
for this conference. Through seminars and
workshops, the counselors acquired well-rounded
understanding of the fundamentals of the American
education process.
Counselors also obtained an
accurate assessment of advising potential, including
suggestions for improved counseling for students in
the Gulf Region. At the end, each counselor received
an American Counseling Certificate acknowledging
successful achievement and advancement in the
advising profession. Many participants claimed this
was the best professional conference they attended
in their careers.

2005 Dubai "American Education Expo"
|
|
|
Our American Education Expo in Dubai’s Knowledge
Village was the first of its’ kind since the tragedy of
September 11th. The event received great fanfare in
print media before the opening. Over two days, over
2,000 students and parents from across the Gulf
Countries visited with admissions officers from over
70 visiting American universities. The schools ranged
from big state schools to small private colleges, two-
year community colleges and four-year universities,
offering undergraduate and graduate program,
including some language programs and trade schools.
Despite the large numbers, all of our exhibitors
reported they were able to spend time speaking with
individual students, discussing the opportunities at
their university. Many were able to successfully
recruit students met at the Expo. Most of our
presenters also made important professional contacts
with one of the over 100 guidance counselors in
attendance.
The event was opened by the US Ambassador to the
UAE, accompanied by other top-ranking diplomats
from Washington and the UAE. These officials met
with each and every one of our American presenters.

Panel Discussion – “The Best Education Money Can Buy”
|
|
|
To better introduce students and parents to the
benefits of an American degree, ISN hosted a panel
discussion the first night of the event, before the
Expo formally opened. Our keynote speaker was a US
Department of Commerce official, who talked about
the current situation in America and to assure
parents their children would be welcome at American
universities. Panel members included alumni from the
region who graduated from American universities after
9/11.
Topics discussed included the reasons the
United States remain the top destination for foreign
students, the benefits of recruiting foreign students
to U.S. campuses, and other relevant issues. The
panel also took questions from the audience, sparking
more interesting and informative conversation.
